Meme & Random Rant

[info]soul_warden, who doesn't even read this blog, tagged me to do a "Random Things About Me" meme, and I decided to do a political version of it.

1. Post these rules.
2. Each tagged person must post 8 things about themselves on their journal.
3. At the end, you have to choose and tag 8 people.
4. No tag-backs.

I'm not gonna tag anyone; if you wanna do the meme feel free! (Link me to your post even, I'm curious.)

Eight random political facts about me:

1. In 1999 and 2000, I genuinely liked John McCain. I thought he was a real maverick and I loved him on The Daily Show. Also, I felt really bad for how the Bush/Rove team fucked him over in the primaries. By 2004 I still kind of liked McCain, but was totally disgusted by how he was cozying up to Bush. Now in 2008, I can't fucking stand the guy.

2. I was, and am, a Hillary supporter. I voted for her in the primaries. I still love her and all the Clintons hardcore.

3. But I like Obama a lot too, and I'm proud to be voting for him in November. I think he'll make a great president.

4. I am extraordinarily proud of being a Democrat and a Liberal. I know that on some level all politicians suck and are basically evil creatures, but I genuinely believe that the Democrats are LESS EVIL than the Republicans. TRUFAX.

5. If I lived in Canada or Western Europe, I'd be a card-carrying Socialist. I think those countries have the right idea. Unfortunately in the U.S. being identified as a "socialist" seems to equal being a communist or even worse. So I call myself a Liberal and leave it at that.

6. Things I would sell my soul for: universal health care, energy independence, affordable college education for all citizens, and a guarantee that Roe v Wade won't be overturned. There are a lot of issues I care about, but those are my biggest concerns when I look at what candidate to support.

7. There's a lot of things that I can sympathize with conservatives about, or at least see their point on. Like abortion for instance - I believe that life starts at conception too, and I could never have an abortion myself. But I am pro-choice because I don't think it's fair for me to impose my beliefs onto other people. That's the difference between me and a lot of conservatives.

8. I'm never going to get over Florida 2000. NEVER EVER NEVER, DO YOU HEAR ME?!? I don't care that Bush is almost out of office; he was never supposed to have been there in the first place. Gah.

In other news, I suppose it makes me a raging anti-feminist that I fucking can't stand Sarah Palin, right? ::eyeroll:: Seriously, the conservatives are such WHINERS, I swear to God. If anyone even *dares* to criticize Palin, they're automatically against her beause she's a woman or because she has an assload of kids. (Sorry, that was probably disrespectful.) It couldn't have anything to do with the fact that she's completely inexperienced, and a total hypocrite, and wants to keep the status quo firmly in place, or a million other things that drive me crazy about her.

And I have to say, if Chelsea Clinton had gotten pregnant at 17, the conservative media vultures would have fucking CRUCIFIED her, I'm not even exaggerating in the slightest. They would have eviserated her, seriously. But because the Palin's are a republican family, they "get a pass", as Hannity and O'Reilly would say. It's so ridiculous.

Another thing to hate about Sarah Palin: when she was mayor, Wasilla charged rape victims for their own rape kits. He complained when the then-governor signed a law saying they couldn't.

P.S.

#8:
Me too. Seriously, that shit drove me crazy, I actually went to D.C. and protested in May of 2000. (You know, right about when Bush gave the Taliban $40 million dollars.)

THIS!!!

I also have a theory that since it was FL that fucked up the 2000 election, and we all know Jeb Bush was Gov. of that state in 2000, he fixed it so that his state would make it so that his brother gets into office. I've always believed that.

No need for any conspiracies, every independent recount done after 2000 showed Gore winning Florida. If Gore would have pushed harder and the Republican cronies in Florida and Washington hadn't done their dirty work in forcing it through as soon as possible, Gore would have become president.

But think about it this way...8 years of Gore and now we'd most likely be having to vote for President Lieberman.

Ow, ow ow, ow ow!

Ok, I confess you got me laughing about that one.

A friend of mine who has family down in Florida, said the po-lice were pulling over POC all over. They did it to her family. I think your theory has validity.

8. Oh. my. god. When Scalia said earlier this year that the left needed to get over it already - I started throwing things.

NEVER. I will NEVER get over it. When I think about what this country could have become with Al Gore as president...it just breaks my heart.

Scalia is an asshat...plain and simple. I wish to god that it was legal for Justices to get removed from the bench cause IMO, he deserves to be.

They can be removed, but at the Supreme Court level it requires a full-blown impeachment process.

Oh the hypocrisy is mind blowing. I dislike hypocrisy no matter who it is! Chelsea would be done. I don't think that makes you an anti-feminist: just because someone has two XX chromesomes, doesn't make her a feminist. Let me also add that Palin never met an animal she didn't want to shoot: I like guns. Serious. It is fun to shoot, and while I haven't hunted, I am in a hunters paradise. Let me tell you, most hunters that *I* know, do not approve of running wolves down in helicopters, and shooting them when they can't run anymore. Then, you cut the left forepaw off (is the wolf dead? I fucking hope so!) and bring it in to the conservation office for $150. bounty on it.

Actually, somebody stepped in and stopped the bounties, on the grounds that she didn't have the authority to authorize the funds. That didn't stop the hunts, though.

My bad. Good god though. I wish Jesus would come back and slap the stew out of these so called Christians. I thought Christians cared about the poor and helpless.

Hey, it's still a valid complaint: that is what she tried to do.

I can't figure out what part of Palin's daughter being pregnant now is the worst part in my opinion, but this is one of those that are up there (along with hello, abstinence-only education supporters, did you at least make sure your daughter took a family planning class? no? and you're proud of her for not caring about your abstinence-only views? also, why is she a good reason that your youngest is really yours? did you really have to put your daughter in the spotlight like that?). It's almost enough to think the liberals have more morals than the conservatives. :P

Thanks for keeping me up-to-date with politics in the media!

And just imagine if one of Obama's daughters were in that position. They're too young now, but just imagine. Ugh.

heh I may post this to my LJ.

btw, you may be interested/amused to know that I'm actually flying out to your neck of the woods for the days before the election to volunteer - I live in LA but I've got a friend over in Arlington Courthouse who I'll be staying with.
