"The Holy Roman Empire is neither holy, nor Roman, nor an empire."

I have been so depressed the last 8 years. I finally feel....hope?

Thank you, Mr. Obama.

I know. I felt this strange sensation, and it worried me... but then I realized it was this the unusual feeling that things were going to get better.

My reaction was so intense that the tears wouldn't come. Pure joy. Pure joy.
5th-Nov-2008 04:26 am (UTC)
Me too.
5th-Nov-2008 04:24 am (UTC)
With a GIANT fucking mandate! Holy SHIT yes!

I'm so excited right now I don't know what to do with myself!
5th-Nov-2008 04:25 am (UTC)
I know! I thought I was going to go to bed uncertain of the outcome (like the last two Presidential elections). This is certainly a pleasant surprise!
5th-Nov-2008 06:58 am (UTC)
I know. I hate to say this, but I want to send a big damn thank-you note to John McCain for conceding so graciously, so definitively, and so IMMEDIATELY.
5th-Nov-2008 04:26 am (UTC)

♥ ♥ ♥

Crying & I can almost not believe this is actually happening.
5th-Nov-2008 04:30 am (UTC)
It's real! It's really real! I had to pinch myself, but I'm convinced that I'm not dreaming!
5th-Nov-2008 04:28 am (UTC)
I keep crying. So amazing. So happy.
5th-Nov-2008 04:30 am (UTC)
5th-Nov-2008 04:31 am (UTC)
I'm still amazed that we actually did it. Just... amazed and thrilled and a whole bunch of words that I can't seem to find at the moment *lol*

I'm still hoping that North Carolina will end up blue in the end. We tried hard here, so I still have my fingers crossed.

I wish my father and my grandparents who would be besides themselves based on their experiences growing up in segregated areas...protesting for Civil Rights...serving in the segregated units of the Korean war and more...I wish they could have lived to see this. I am beyond words for the cultural impact in my life, proud and hopeful in a way that I haven't felt in a very long time. I am overwhelmed.

But speaking as one who voted with my conscience for the person who matched closest to my political views ( as I have always done no matter the party), I am very, very happy.

Despite my youth, even I never thought we'd actually get to see a day like this in my lifetime. So proud.
5th-Nov-2008 04:37 am (UTC)
Oh my god, is it really true? I -- I don't know what to say. I wasn't convinced the U.S. could elect a black man. But we did. Oh my god. I think I'm going to go cry. And so early, too. Oh my god.
5th-Nov-2008 04:43 am (UTC)
It's true! No lie!
5th-Nov-2008 04:43 am (UTC)
Yes! And McCain just conceded! That proves it to me. I just don't know what to say now.

I love that line. Oh man. Go Obama.
5th-Nov-2008 07:00 am (UTC)
Oh wow. Nice.
5th-Nov-2008 04:46 am (UTC)
I sobbed a little bit when they called it an hour ago. I couldn't help it. Red states going blue, right pundits throwing their hands up in defeat, footage of Obama crowds going apeshit crazy...

It just feels like the good guys won this time.
5th-Nov-2008 05:55 am (UTC)
I sobbed a little during Obama's speech.
5th-Nov-2008 04:53 am (UTC)
OMG I didn't believe it until I turned on the news and watch McCain's concession speech. He did an awesome job on that speech, and a commend the man.

But OMG! I am so overjoyed! WE WON!
5th-Nov-2008 05:55 am (UTC)
I know. It's hard to process. I kept being hesitant. And it was a gracious speech on his part, though some of it rang hollow after the campaign he chose to run. But, if he follows it going forward, then good for him.

I'm still in shock.
5th-Nov-2008 05:35 am (UTC)
*runs around like crazy person* AAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

5th-Nov-2008 05:56 am (UTC)
My throat hurts I screamed so much.
5th-Nov-2008 05:44 am (UTC)

Best line of the night at the party: "I can get married, smoke a joint, and have a black president. I'm done."

(We had a ballot question to decriminalize small amounts of marijuana.)
5th-Nov-2008 05:45 am (UTC) - Giddy rambling...
God, YES. After spending part of the day at a sort-of Obama headquarters on campus that was giving away stuff, and then driving around our city putting doorhangers telling people where to vote, we went to the local UAW, where a major Democratic party was. We got there after he won Pennsylvania, I think, because the first real screaming we heard was for Ohio. And then it died down for quite a while. We had a whole ton of local candidates; most of them won, but there were just smatterings of applause.
But then just about 11 o clock. The people at the tv behind us saw Virginia first. So we all went over there, screaming. And then Flordia, and then there it was: Obama elected. The screaming was like nothing I've ever heard. We were jumping, hugging, running around like mad. I've never felt like this. Never. I turned 18 three weeks too late to vote against Bush's second term. This night finally made up for that.
5th-Nov-2008 06:00 am (UTC) - Re: Giddy rambling...
The campaign party I was at, the place played "Another One Bites the Dust" when it was called. And we spent one commercial chanting drumming to O-BA-MA.
5th-Nov-2008 06:23 am (UTC)
I feel like I feel when I listen to "Friday I'm In Love," hehehe.
5th-Nov-2008 06:35 am (UTC)
The one happy Cure song. *g* I keep hearing the bit at the end of Sweet Honey in the Rock's "Bitter Battle Over Bork": "Yes, we did, yes, we did!"
5th-Nov-2008 06:50 am (UTC)
I ended up going to my family's house to watch. I thought, for sure, things were going to be like the other years. I can't really remember any elections before 2000. Wasn't that political when I was 13. XDDD Jeeze, really? REALLY???????? I just can't believe it... I can't remember a time when I felt such... HOPE. President-Elect Obama's speech tonight just felt like the boots being pulled on. Yes, things are going to be hard. No, there is no quick fix but WE CAN FIX THINGS. Realistic hope...wow. Long time no see...
5th-Nov-2008 06:58 am (UTC)
I know. It's strange and discomfiting enough just to win. To win with the first black president ever... who's so inspirational and transformational for so many people... it's like... what?
5th-Nov-2008 12:43 pm (UTC)
Does this community have to become liberal_joy now?

Still exhausted from standing outside polling stations in Virginia all day, but thrilled.
5th-Nov-2008 07:14 pm (UTC)
Good question! Ehn, I'm sure they'll still do stuff to fuck us off when they're not in power.

Good work, btw. :)
5th-Nov-2008 07:33 pm (UTC)
Even INDIANA went blue OMG. I think I'm still in shock. First time since 1964. Even my parents weren't old enough to vote then

5th-Nov-2008 08:07 pm (UTC)
Awesomesauce. At this point it's a 200 point ass-whomping. Damn, it feels good.
